This ledge is a more versatile way to display art than picture hooks as it lets you move things around, creating your own changing gallery, and add three-dimensional objects that are hard to hang. It’s a slim length of painted tulipwood that comes in three sizes, with a cut-out groove in the middle that holds both framed and unframed art or flat objects like books and plates.

What’s it made from?

Tulipwood is always the timber we turn to when we know we’re going to use a painted finish. That’s because, as well as being strong and stable, it also has a very fine, very even grain. Because there’s little in the way of knots and swirls, it’s easy to create a flat, smooth and practically perfect finish using eggshell paint which, later down the line, you can easily repaint.

About our paint finish

Salt is the colour Buckland comes in as standard, but you can also choose from any of our colours using our paint service for a small extra fee. Either way, each is applied in our water-based eggshell using a mix of spray and hand-painting techniques so the finish is perfect as can be. By using eggshell, you can not only repaint easily, but your shelves will have a soft, low-sheen finish that’s tactile and has a great depth of colour.

How to hang Buckland

Buckland fixes to the wall using several hidden brackets. These slot into the back of the shelf, where they’re held in place from underneath with screws. It’s a design that means the shelf can take up to 20kg of evenly-spread weight, and that also allows for small adjustments if your wall isn’t flat. We’ve included almost everything you need to hang Buckland yourself, you’ll just need to add screws and plugs to suit your wall type.

A styling tip or two

Buckland works in just about any room – the small size is ideal for the niches either side of a chimney breast, while the larger ones are great above a sofa. Or mix and match different lengths, mounting them in a staggered arrangement, for a more individual feel. When it comes to dressing your ledges, there are lots of possibilities, but whatever you include, we’ve found that a layered style with some pieces slightly in front of others looks best.
