Choosing a Neptune corner sofa

The Shoreditch L shape sofa takes a clean, architectural approach: a minimalist silhouette with full-length armrests and square tapering oak legs that suit contemporary living rooms where a structured, pared-back aesthetic is the aim. Its slimmer profile makes it the stronger choice for rooms where generous seating is needed without a heavy visual footprint.

The Long Island corner sofa takes a different approach entirely. Inspired by our founders' East Coast travels, it combines the relaxed proportions of coastal living with the quiet elegance of Belgian chic, finished with a removable loose linen slipcover and kick-pleated skirt that give it an informal, effortless quality. Available in configurations from four to seven seats, it suits both modest and larger open-plan spaces. Where the Shoreditch is defined by its structure, the Long Island is defined by its ease.

Built to last, considered throughout

Both the Shoreditch and Long Island corner sofas are built on kiln-dried tulipwood frames, assembled and upholstered by hand. Kiln-drying removes residual moisture from the timber before construction, reducing the risk of warping or movement over time and ensuring the frame holds its shape through years of daily use. The frame on both designs is secured with traditional reinforced halving joints, a technique that prioritises long-term structural integrity over quicker alternatives.

Seat suspension on both designs uses serpentine springs, which provide balanced support across the full width of the seat rather than concentrating it in one area. The cushions are generously filled and foam-cored for lasting resilience. The Long Island's removable slipcover fastens with concealed wooden toggles and Velcro points, allowing covers to be taken off and laundered without disturbing the sofa's overall appearance. Both designs carry Neptune's lifetime guarantee on the frame and upholstery.

The Shoreditch L shape sofa is available in 24 fabric options, spanning natural linens, Harris Tweed, cotton velvet, boucle, and leather, allowing the same clean silhouette to feel warm and traditional or light and contemporary, depending on the choice. The Long Island's removable slipcover is available in a more focused range of natural linens, keeping the Belgian-inspired character of the design intact.

The right size depends on the room's dimensions, how the sofa will be used, and where it will sit. As our design director Fred recommends, leave at least 80cm between the sofa and any wall or other furniture for comfortable circulation. The Long Island is available in configurations from four to seven seats, making it suited to both more modest living rooms and larger open-plan spaces. In a long or narrow room, an L-shaped sofa positioned away from the walls can act as a natural room divider, creating a defined seating zone without closing the space off. Marking out dimensions with masking tape before ordering helps confirm the right configuration.

Care differs between the two designs. The Shoreditch's upholstery should be vacuumed regularly with a soft brush attachment and any spills blotted immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth. The Long Island's removable linen slipcover is one of its most practical qualities, as covers can be taken off and laundered without disturbing the sofa's overall appearance, making it particularly well-suited to family life and everyday use.
