The material
Like all our dinnerware pieces, Olney’s made from stoneware because it’s hardwearing. You can put it in the dishwasher and even the microwave without any worries, and it’s a lot less likely to chip than some other ceramics. As refined as Olney is, these are pieces to live with day after day, not tiptoe around.
In the making
No two pieces in the Olney collection will be the same. That’s because we apply the thistle motif by hand using carved wooden blocks. Pattern changes, varying shades – they’re what make Olney feel more characterful.
A sense of history
There’s a whole lot of tradition behind Olney’s finish. From British spongeware – hand-stamped everyday pottery with its roots in the 18th century – to Chinese and Indian block printing. Just like both of these artisan processes, Olney’s got the same feeling of craft.
A styling tip or two
Olney’s one case when we think a complete matching set is rather charming, especially for breakfast or afternoon tea, as it’s a look that suits its traditional feel. That said, we also love to combine it with other styles of crockery for a relaxed spring lunch or summer supper – try Croxton which, with its fine detail and pure white colour, complements Olney nicely.
