Eleanor Morgan
West London basket maker Eleanor Morgan, ‘has always been a maker’. She has a fine art degree and before basketry, her passion was within textiles, including knitting, patchwork, embroidery and soft sculpture.
Eleanor’s work is ‘all about provenance’. Historically, willow was grown in communities to make essential baskets for daily life. Today, it’s a question of foraging. ‘Some of the handles here were foraged from Borth Ealing, some from Newmarket and I grew a small amount on my allotment in Isleworth,’ says Eleanor.
Willow baskets
Eleanor has created two exclusively commissioned baskets that meld utility and function with a purely sculptural form. The handles are in solid bent willow, and both baskets are made in the traditional ‘stake-and-strand' style.
Only available in the UK and Ireland.
We've collaborated with design curator and advocate Barbara Chandler to identify and showcase fine craftspeople practicing near our London stores. Meet each of our makers and their locally-inspired designs.
